Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there was a lovely lady named Lady Adilene- she was beautiful and adored by her many attendants. She was cheerful, loved to coo and blow bubbles. She laughed at her brother and doggie when they did funny things to make her laugh. Her eyes sparkled like little shimmers of sunlight. From the outside looking in the Fair Lady Adilene's life was perfect, but behold the one thing that ailed poor dear Lady Adilene was that she refused to stay asleep for nap time. Despite the King and (mostly) the Queens daily efforts, she continued to awaken and loudly demand that she be held in an upright position, she would try to play but the King and Queen could clearly see that she was in need of a good rest. "Does she need to eat?" the Queen would wonder, but alas the answer was always a resounding "NO!" "Does she need burped?" the King would declare. Again the answer was usually no. She just wanted to be held. Amid all the good parenting tactics, the King and Queen found that there is always a time when she will be fussy- and, not wanting to wake the Duke across the hall- they found it difficult to let her fuss much at all, even while standing and sitting with her to comfort her while she lay.
"What shall we do?" wondered the good King and Queen. What shall become of the peacefulness of the kingdom? For many weeks the Royal Couple toiled and fretted and spent time on their knees wondering what should be done to help the Fair Lady Adilene.
Then, one day the Queen discovered that maybe, just maybe... the sleepless naptime had to do with the lighting of the room. Alas, there is hope yet! On further ponderings the Queen remembered that the Duke had this same issue with naptime when he was a little Duke, why hadn't it been thought of before! When the King returned from his journyings afar, the Queen made a proclamation throughout all the land. Harken, on the morrow we shall find dark sheets in the dungeon to hang about the bedroom window- if this is successful we shall buy light blocking blinds. There was much rejoicing, for Lady Adilene needs a nap and the royal laundry needs time to be completed without interruptions. We are well on our way, thought the Queen, for I will not rest until our current naptime, goes from something like this
to something that looks more like this
There will be peace in the kingdom again...
